29 July – 1 August 2019 marked the inaugural debut of Advertising Week Asia Pacific as Advertising Week’s fifth global city held in Sydney, Australia. #AWAPAC, takes place in Luna Park, one of Sydney’s most iconic venues, and brings industry professionals together throughout the Asia Pacific region for a week of thoughtful conversations with leaders from the marketing, advertising, technology and creative spaces. During the week, expect wide ranging discuss on where we’ve been, where we’re going and what trends, challenges and opportunities are shaping today’s global industry. Advertising Week APAC joins a global network of Advertising Week events in New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, and London.

Kevin Ackhurst is the Director of Agency for Google Australia and New Zealand.

Previously Kevin was Managing Director of Google for Work, Asia Pacific. In this role he oversaw Google Apps for Business and Chrome OS product suite and works with some of the biggest companies in the region, including Woolworths, Globe Telecom and JSW Steel.

Kevin is a technology sector veteran. He was the Vice President, Sales & Marketing, for Microsoft in Asia-Pacific and the Vice President, Asia at Juniper Networks before joining Google.

Kevin has lived in 6 countries but Australia is home. In his spare time he is trying to learn French and how to play the ukulele. Both of these pursuits are taking a back seat to spending time with his family and renovating his home.

Prior to the AANA John had a 25 year marketing career in FMCG, working in several categories including food, confectionery, household cleaners and personal care, with a number of global companies including Unilever, Kellogg, Nestle and Reckitt Benckiser. His most recent role was CMO at Unilever ANZ.

Originally from Yorkshire, England, John has lived and worked in several countries, including the US, Canada and the Middle East. He lives in Sydney along with his wife, Jacquie and two daughters, Leah & Anna.

It comprises Seven Television, the number one commercial TV network; Pacific Magazines, the nation’s second largest magazine group by readership; Yahoo!7 one of the country’s most successful internet platforms, as well as Western Australia’s leading newspaper, The West Australian and associated WA regional newspapers and radio stations.

The role is tasked with expanding existing and new partnerships and growing the company’s current advertising revenue streams of over $1.5 billion across all the business units, in addition to establishing new revenue opportunities for the organisation. Melissa Fein is CEO of Initiative, one of Australia’s most prominent media communications agencies and part of IPG Mediabrands. She is a proven industry leader, with more than 18 years of media and advertising experience, representing world class brands both locally and internationally across media owners and advertising agencies. Her career has seen a dominant focus on driving revenue through innovation and thought leadership.

Melissa started her career at News Corp Australia, departing after six years to join MTV Networks Australia, and was quickly re-located to New York to work within the MTV Integrated Marketing team, Melissa returned to MTV in Sydney before Ignite Media Brands was formed (through a merger of Viacom and TV1 Group). Melissa led the Sydney and Brisbane markets for a year before moving to GroupM owned, Mindshare.

In 2011, Melissa launched ESP Australia, a global Entertainment & Sports Partnership group, and built the ESP brand in Australia to much acclaim from clients both locally and regionally. Melissa led a team of award winning and market leading specialists.

In October 2013, Melissa joined the newly launched creative unit at Network Ten, Generate, to lead the strategic solutions arm of Generate, covering strategy, sponsorship and integration. 6 months later, Melissa was named National Head of Generate (leading both the creative/production and strategic solutions arms of Generate). Generate was Network Ten's client solutions division, specializing in strategic and creative content creation, digital and social integration.

Within Melissa’s tenure, Generate created globally recognized and groundbreaking integrated partnerships. In September 2015, Network Ten and MCN combined sales operations and Melissa was appointed to a key senior Transition Management role whilst also developing and leading network brand solutions for clients across the entire MCN Portfolio (Ten & Foxtel). She was appointed CEO of Initiative Australia in February 2016.

Prior to UnLtd Chris was Commercial Director ANZ at Pandora Media where he led the team to Mumbrella Sales Team of the year 2017. Before that he was the National Agency Sales Director at Fairfax Media. Prior to arriving to Australia, Chris spent 9 years in editorial, events, marketing and sales roles in London. In his early career Chris sold deckchairs and donkey rides on Blackpool beach and worked as a part time bingo caller. He is a sport fanatic and lives in Balmain East with his wife and two sons.

Greg started his advertising career in despatch at McCanns in 1973. In Greg’s 40+ years in advertising, he has worked for a number of high profile creative agencies; DDB, Burnett’s & JWT. In 1997 he launched MindShare’s Melbourne office as Managing Director and has worked for WPP/GroupM for over 26years. More recently Greg was the Marketing & New Business Director of Mindshare North America, based in New York for 7 years. In that time the agency was incredibly successful and was named AdWeek’s Media Agency of the Year for winning in excess of a billion dollars in new business!

Greg transferred back home to Australia in 2007 working in a similar role to the US across GroupM’s companies & WPP AUNZ. Greg is involved in many industry committees (ex-Chairman MFA Awards) and has received numerous industry accolades eg. Media Person of the Year, Media Manager of the Year Asia Pacific etc…

Greg also volunteers for a number of charities including UnLtd & MMAD (Musicians Making A Difference.) James hosts the award winning TV series, Marketing Dividends, on Sky News Business where he interviews Australia’s leading CMO’s & CEO’s on marketing’s contribution to the bottom line. Now in its third series, Marketing Dividends won the global World Federation of Advertisers exclusive Chairman’s Award for Excellence in promoting marketing.

James is a regular guest on industry panels, speaker platforms and Media Week on Sky News Business.

For ACP (now Bauer Media) he was in charge of mass weekly and monthly titles including Woman’s Day, TV Week, NW, Cleo, Dolly, Rolling Stone and Men’s Style (for which he was also launch editor), and in 2013 ran the Hearst-Bauer joint venture, responsible for Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar and the re-launch of ELLE. Back in 1998, Peter was appointed launch editor for Conde Nast’s GQ Australia before devising and launching The Daily Telegraph’s Sydney Confidential in 2000. With Harry M. Paul Sigaloff joined Yahoo7 in April 2014 & became CRO in 2017.  Reporting to the CEO, Paul is a key member of the Yahoo7 executive team and is responsible for driving revenue and best practice across sales, trade marketing advertising & corporate strategy.  Paul is also responsible for the development of new advertising products and offerings, recent launches include: BrightRoll & Gemini.

In 2006 Paul joined Global Radio to launch their interactive department until he was approached by Fairfax Digital to relocate to Australia in 2009 to run their National Digital Sales team.  In 2011 Fairfax integrated its print and digital businesses, which Paul oversaw & ran the national integrated sales team across Fairfax APM.

Prior to joining Facebook in 2012, Alexandra spent 11 years working in creative agencies. She was at Y&R New York for 5 years working as Global Account Lead for brands like LG and Dell in which time her team bagged a bronze Cannes Lions amongst other accolades.

She started her career in Sydney managing brand and retail campaign strategy for Toyota, Lexus and Telstra at George Patterson Y&R, Y&R Sydney and Oddfellows.

Previously Michael was the Director of Sales for the Nine Network and the Director of Sales for ninemsn. He has also held various roles at both the Seven and Ten Networks during his 24 years in broadcast and digital sales.

Michael holds a Bachelor Degree in Management (Marketing), is on the boards of Think TV and OzTAM and serves as an active member of the fundraising committee for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

At Mediacom he was instrumental in the successful introduction of Mediacom’s digital & strategic offering and the growth of the agency’s diversified services.

During his time with WPP Chris was an active participant in the George Pattison Bates buyback from Cordiant Communications in the UK, as well as the acquisition and subsequent transition of the Mediacom business from Zenith Media.

Chris is currently a non-executive Board Member of Executive Channel Australia, and managing director of Media i, Australia’s most consumed trade media platform for media agency professionals, comprising over 220 premium large format digital screens across 70 locations.

Matt Rowley
Matt is responsible for all advertising revenue generated within the Fairfax mastheads including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and the Australian Financial Review. He leads teams across ten major verticals, agency and direct sales, programmatic trading, ad tech & operations and the 50-strong Commercial Innovation division.

Matt's extensive background as a global marketer, creative agency head and digital publisher makes him well placed to drive results for Fairfax customers. His previous roles include Director of Content Marketing at Cirrus Media Australia and Managing Director within the Publicis Groupe in London.
